Attached you can find an Access database. It contains 2 tables: - OrderItemInfo: Which lists for each order number the items contained - ValidItemCodes: A list of item codes that can be used for the optimization The setup is as follows: There are two stations with 30 item locations each. Each station can have any combination of items from the ValidItemCodes list (including overlapping items between the two stations) Problem: The two stations need to be configured in such a way, so that the maximum number of orders can be fullfilled by the two stations combined. An order is fulfilled when ALL items can be supplied by one station. If an order contains items that are not on the ValidItemCodes list then it cannot be fulfilled. If an order can be fulfilled by both stations, it still counts as one order. Required: You need to determine and provide the optimal distribution of items to the stations. You need to describe the method / algorithm that you used to determine this optimal distribution. The method/algorithm should not try all possible permutations, since this would take too long to calculate. Please note: I do NOT need the program to determine the optimal distribution! If you can solve this via queries and can provide them than this would be a bonus! Please note that the data is provided in MS Access (but the source system is not) - therefore it is not an MS Access specific query.
