Hello. I do a lot of proofreading on a freelance basis. I check spelling, punctuation, grammar, style and language and correct when necessary. I use track changes so that the writer can see what has been done. When more than one option is possible, or if I feel that I am changing too much, I put suggestions in comments and like to discuss these proposed changes to the writer.
