We are having a problem, in a ASP.Net applictaion, accessing files on a Novel server. We need to read files on a Novell Netware server from within ASP.NET running on Windows 2003 Server.

drive/folders/files, but when running under the ASP.Net service (with impersonation set - see details below) we cannot open/access files.

We have:

1. Installed the Novell client (not the Microsoft client for Novell) on the Windows 2003 Server.

2. The Novell client (4.91) is using IP (not IPX) to access the Novell server.

3. Setup a windows user ID on the Windows 2003 Server that is the same as the Novell User ID with rights to the Novell server (the passwords are the same).

4. Added the “identity?? node to the “[url removed, login to view]? file with impersonate=??true?? and the windows user ID and password are specified.

5. The Windows 2003 Server is not a member of a windows domain.

6. We are using .NET 1.1

7. We have mapped a drive to the Novell path using the "Novell Map Network Drive..." command, checked the setting to "Always map this drive letter when you start windows" and pointed to the mapped path. This worked while logged onto the server, but did not work from ASP.NET. We also could access the Novell server with UNC (instead of a mapped drive letter) and that also worked while logged into the server, but not from ASP.NET

8. We have created a script to map a network drive. This had the same failure for ASP.NET as #7 above.

With the above setup, we can logon to the Windows 2003 Server with the windows user ID and access the files on the Novell server.

When we try to access the files from inside ASP.NET, we get an error 67 on the file open command (the Win32 CreateFile function). Error 67 means “The network name cannot be found??.

We are looking to get someone involved (phone help on an hourly basis and discussion) right away.
