Currently using vm workstation 9. I have a process that I do online, requires the vm to be unique.
Say I had a vm called "Tony-A". I can start it, go online and do my process. No problem.
Now say before I took "Tony-A" online, I had [login to view URL] it, making "Tony-B". After having used "Tony-A" to do my process, once I take "Tony-B" online, it wont let me do the process again. It remembers me somehow, and logically so, seeing as how Tony-B is a clon.e of Tony-A.
Similiarly, if I take Tony-A back online, to do the same process, it denies, because it remembers that I had already done the process.
Now, if I create a new VM, called Tony-C, then I can take it online, and do the process.
Therefore, its not getting anything from the Host. Simply by the fact that both tony-A and tony-C were created on the very same pc, and both run on the same pc, we know its not getting any info from the Host. We know that because, if it were, tony-C would not be allowed to do the process, after tony-A had. It would see it as a duplicate, but it doesn't.
So where does that leave us? It seems easy to me, there is some unique identifier within the container of the vm. It see's tony-A and tony-B as the same, but it see's tony-C as different (unique). As it should, tony-C was a newly created vm.
Is there a process where we can merely copy Tony-A to Tony-D, or E, or F, etc., without having to go through the process of creating new vm's, installing an OS, software, etc. Can it be as simple as changing a unique identifier on a vm?
I am familiar with the process I do. I've been doing it for awhile. What DOES not work:
New mac address.
TMAC Technitium MAC Address Changer
Sysprep
None of those work. It is tracking something in the vm itself.
We can use Teamviewer as well. No skype. Thanks.

Hello, I am a linux administrator. I understand your issue and I can resolve it and show you how to do it in the future. I have worked on VMWare, Virtualbox as well as Virtual PC for more that 5 years. and this is quite a general error.

I get what you are saying it is frustrating at times.
I have been in this before but always the solution is different.
I my production environment we deploy VMs.. but to develop and automated script to duplicate the VMs we had to first use the approach you used and it was not an easy task when some VMs work and others don't
I would be willing to assist you. May you provide the necessary VM files for both Tonay -A,B, and C
Thank you
