The project is to simulate a 2-D reservoir, single phase fluid flow. The reservoir is rectangular with dimensions Lx and Ly. The thickness of the reservoir is H. the reservoir permeability is anisotropic with values kx, and ky. Porosity is φ.

You are to write the general finite difference equation for a variable size considering the following:

• You will be provided the various values of Δx and Δy for different cases.

• You will be provided permeability multiplier px and py for each grid.

• You will be provided porosity multiplier for each grid

• Viscosity may be a function of pressure. You will be provided with this function

• Compressibility may be a function of pressure. You will be provided with this function

• The initial and boundary conditions are as we discussed in class.

The finite difference equation is to consider the variation in in coefficients.

Part B

Run your program for the following conditions:

Reservoir size is 400X400 ft.

Use constant grid size of 20 ft for x and y directions

Permeability and porosity multipliers are all ones

Kx=ky= 1 md

Porosity=0.10

Formation height = 50 ft

Oil viscosity = 1 cp (constant value)

Total compressibility = 20X10-6

I.C. p=5000 psi t=0, 0≤x≤Lx

0≤x≤Ly

B.C. no flow boundary all around the reservoir except for grid 1 and 1, where rate in x direction is 100 bbl/day

Part C

Kx=ky= 1 md

Porosity=0.10

Use the attached table for Δx, Δy, permeability and porosity multiplier

Formation height = 50 ft

Oil viscosity at initial viscosity = 1 cp

Slope of viscosity with pressure = 0.0001 cp/psi

Total compressibility = 20X10-6

I.C. p=5000 t=0, 0≤x≤Lx

0≤x≤Ly

B.C. no flow boundary all around the reservoir except for grid 1 and 1.

The pressure outside grid 1, 1 at x direction is 4000 psi
