Teach me PIC16F Circuit


I'm an inexperienced electronics enthusiast and require some assistance in getting started programming PIC chips. I have a PicKit 3 programmer/debugger and MPLAB IDE on a MAC. I would like to start with the Pic16F chips (unless you suggest a better one for my suggested projects).

I'm looking for someone to help me breadboard out a pic circuit using Infra-red less transmitters and receivers talking to a Pic chip. You will be required to answer questions about setting up Pic circuits and breadboard out the same circuit so that you can send me pictures of how to lay things out or maybe use fritzing in breadboard layout.

Once I'm in a position where I can set up a pic chip on a breadboard and program it we will build a very simple infra-red receiver / transmitter that will get a signal and depending on what it is it will transmit it to a known location. I'm not looking for a programming tutorial I can work on that as I program for a living. I'm looking for someone very experienced in electronics so they can teach me the hardware side of things. If this goes well I will also be looking for someone to teach me how to control stepper motors too so feel free to let me know how much that would cost in your comments.
