Fiction Manuscript Editor
• Demographic: 30-60 years old, “American English” / Written, with some medical/scientific vocabulary
• SUBGENRES: Medical and Scientific Fiction / Female Fiction / Conspiracy and Suspense Adventure
• Monogamous Romantic Subplots within an ensemble of four primary characters with heavy development
• Some references in languages other than English are within, although these translations are already validated
This is an opportunity to demonstrate your mastery of language and structure. I’m seeking the one-two punch before final publication. First, you will put it through a rigorous comprehensive edit, hunting out any issues with structure, style or phrasing and providing actionable advice on finding the best form of the story. In some cases, this will also involve discussion of what to cut outright from the manuscript, or revise, or reposition within the narrative. Then, once I have reviewed the edit and revised, you’ll copyedit and ensure that it’s free of any remaining typographic, spelling, or grammatical error. This finished file will then be formatted into the template that is being submitted to the publisher for review and printing.
The preferred candidate is proficient with Microsoft Word, and capable of using the review controls for document collaboration and security, so that changes may be properly tracked and approved. A standardized Non-Disclosure Agreement will be required. The finished work will bear your name, credited as “EDITOR”; but the work remains my sole intellectual property. Upon completion, a letter of acceptance will be drafter and submitted to your Department for “Academic Consideration” for placement within your transcript.
Remuneration is negotiated in advance as CREDITED/UNCREDITED.
Ideal candidates will be working on their M.F.A. in Fiction and/or Ph.D. in ENGLISH. If ENGL498, ENGL789 and/or 789b are in your transcript already, this lends greater weight to your application. A non-manuscript sample will be given to allow you an opportunity to demonstrate your skills at both levels of editing. References are helpful, but not required.
