Hey there!
I am looking for a great editor for my 62,000 word mystery/crime novel. I have edited it many times and have had friends look over it, but I really want an editor with experience to have a go. I want to make this novel the best it can be and there may be some improvements that only a professional can help me realise.
I would like a substantive edit that primarily looks at any inconsistencies in the plot, helps me add content to flesh out any characters that need more development, keeps the text focused on the character's perspective, removes any passive text, aids me in making the story consistently gripping and clear, and helps me in bringing any scenes that are a bit lackluster to life. As I have a handful of main characters that make several appearances in perspective, I would also want my editor to help me craft a beginning that is easy to follow but doesn't scrap out on the intrigue. I would also like copy editing looking at any grammar/spelling mistakes that may have slipped through in the countless drafts. I'm really looking for someone who can help me polish this work to make it truly shine to it's full potential (which is hopefully a brilliant story).
Synopsis of novel:
[Bloody mistakes, ugly scars, and beautiful lies. A tale of corruption.
Helen Gardener is murdered on a trans-Atlantic cruise. The Diamond Royale sails from Southampton to New York with her murderer aboard. Set in the 1950s, Poisoned Waters follows the stories of seven unfortunate characters and how they are affected by her death. Was it merely an accident? Mr Phillips, the owner of the ship, and sponsor of the cruise, rules with an iron fist, in search of something or someone.
Lies spiral out of control as the suspects try to survive the final days on board. Conflicted by their sense of morals, greed, and lust, they realise what kind of people they really are. Who will rise? Who will fall? Who was Helen's murderer?]
I would like the job to be started in April. I am happy to negotiate with the editor how long they need to complete the job. Ideally, I was thinking about a month or two, with the editor updating me weekly or fortnightly on their progress. Also, anyone with historical knowledge of the 50s would be a great plus as the novel is set in that time.
If I am very happy with the price, quality and partnership, I have much more work available with other fiction novels.
I am happy to send you the first chapter of my work for you to look through (in case that changes your price). If you could send me your price, how long you think it would take you, any previous experience you've had, and an example of your work (or if you would be happy editing 1,000-2,000 words for free so I can see the way you work), that would be fantastic. The most important things for me is your price and an example of your work. I hope to find someone as passionate about great storytelling as I am! :)
Thanks for your time and consideration,
Ermisenda

I am an experienced manuscript editor and writer and, most importantly, a keen reader with wide-ranging interests.
I currently undertake this kind of editing work, focusing on both structure, continuity and character as well as copy editing. Here is a testimonial from my last fiction manuscript work:
"I was looking for someone to read the first draft of my first novel who would be entirely honest, objective and realistic. I found such a person in Peter Hough. His report was thorough, intuitive and of the utmost integrity. There was nothing that, if I was honest with myself, that I could not agree with. You cannot get a more helpful reader than that." - John Stapleton, Author
I am an experienced editor with 19 years commercial experience in a Higher Education setting and have solid fiction copy editing skills, including fact-checking, spelling and grammar.
Dear Client:
Good day!
I am writing this letter to express my interest to your project job posted on Freelancer.ph. I have been a writer by hobby for more than 10 years now and by profession for 7 years. As a writer myself, I am also an avid reader, escpecially crime thrillers and mystery novel. I have always been fond of writers who engage in this kind of genre -- believing that you should write the book you wanted to read.
For novels like yours, I am proposing to apply the following editing techniques:
I. Analyzing Storyline
A. Outlining - the original storyline based on the synopsis
B. Story Framework - the whole story package (did it stay according to the outline)
II. Characterization
A. Character in action - how the characters executed an action
B. Character in description - how the characters have been described
C. Character in setting - how the character reacts to the setting of the story
III. Story Secrets
A. Premise and Plot - appropriateness of the plot
B. Troubleshooting the Middle Plot - aligning the possible loop holes that may arise along
C. Aligning back to the Story Board
IV. Language
A. Analyzing Dialogues - appropriateness of character dialogues
V. Ending
A. Analyzing the pros and cons of your ending
I am looking forward to working with you and I wish you goodluck to your novel. I hope to read it someday.
Thank you.

Hello! I understand you are looking for an editor? I would love to be that person! I do not completely rely on spell check or grammar check. I actually go through and read for continuity, for accuracy and for content as well. I also love this genre and am very familiar with the writing style.
I would use all of the resources available to me to finish this project in a timely manner and to your specifications. I love finding typos and keeping an eye out for them. My own publisher made a typo on my book cover that wasn't caught until after printing!
Please feel free to contact me with any further questions. If not chosen, I wish you all the best in your endeavors!

P.S. I have a 50% completion rate listed and would like to explain briefly. It was the first project that I received here on freelancer and due to a time zone difference mistake on my part, I was unable to complete it to their specifications and notified them and it was cancelled. I double check now. Thank you

Hello
That sounds like a good read! Congratulations!
I have obtained a Diploma and a High Diploma of Publishing, Editing and Proofreading through the Australian College in Sydney, Australia.I understand that spelling mistakes, poor grammar and badly constructed sentences can lead to a loss of business and opportunities. I ensure that the document or manuscript is well constructed and will meet its intended purpose. I always consult with the author of the document or manuscript before I commence work. My aim is to improve the work by assisting the writer to be a little more objective. I also like to be in touch with the author of the work during editing. It is essential to work together for the best outcome.
I edit the work for integrity, completeness and consistency, and I proofread for sentence structure and grammar, spelling and punctuation, and basic text format.
If you would like to discuss my proposal and see an example of my work, please contact me.
Thank you
