Topology plays a vital role in assuring the quality of data and in making the Geodatabase more able to represent the geographical phenomena more accurately. This also helps in modeling reality more precisely and in maintaining the reference credibility (good communication) between goals in the Geodatabase.
The current study is an attempt to examine the topologicalerrors in the Jordanian Land and Survey Department maps resulting from technical errors by the technicians when theyprepare, optimize and develop digital maps. Therefore, there is a need for topology controllers; and that is the use of a Geodatabase for targeting the maintenance of practical spatial data, especially with respect to the credibility of parcels maps owned by public and private [url removed, login to view] mistake in them may lead to deficits in these properties, thus; having negative effects on the owners of parcels. Furthermore, the consequence of these mistakes is an extra financial burden on the owners, whether in the form of minimizing the actual price of parcel when giving land to other persons.
As such, the main aims and objectives of the current study may be summarized in the following:
-To identify and detect the topology errors found in Jordanian Land and Survey Department maps.
-To suggest the suitable solutions and procedures to avoid the topology errors in preparing, optimizing and drawing land maps and to correct the existing mistakes in these maps.
The researcher used the analytical descriptive methodology to achieve the aims of the study. In doing so, the study focused on the real phenomena and described them, as they are, both quantitatively and qualitatively. The spatial analysis design was also used by employing the suitable analysis procedures provided in the Geographic Information System (GIS) applications to examine the topology errors found in Jordanian Land and Survey Department maps.
The study concluded with several results regarding the digital maps including there were missing basins in the digital maps, some villages were not included. There were detached basins in the digital maps and there was an overlap in the borders between different villages, forgotten streets, topological absence for lands parcels and the presence of one plate containing several other plates.
The study provided several recommendations including the use of the results reported in the applied studies such as the current study in solving the problems of the parties and government bodies producing maps, which in turn is used in various plans and projects; to use more reliable assurance quality measures on the digital maps, to develop a quality assurance program which are able to maintain the quality of digital maps such as the use of GeographicInformation System and the departments producing digital maps can adopt these quality assurance systems, to establish quality control units in the departments developing digital maps to assure the quality of work and to use internal auditing measures for the product quality.
