Last year 25 million luggages went astray, the IT specialist in the aviation field, Sita, reported. Sita is among other things the creator of a fully automated search system for suitcases that has been lost. Despite the large number of suitcases that was lost, Sita reported, that it actually is a decrease of 23.8 percent, compared to 2008. And therefor we must send out a congratulation to the airliners who managed to get 7.8 million suitcases finding their right home, without going astray. One reason for the decline in lost luggage however is the decline in airline passangers of 2.9 percent last year. Most suitcases finally found their home, but 3.9 percent was either stolen, or found in such a condition that the owner could not be identified.
