Crisis Communication Case Studies Here are short summaries of various crisis communication case studies. Read through them and do research on each of them. The research needs to include a full description of the case situation, how did the organization react and what was their communication strategy? What was the outcome of the case? What could the organization have done instead of the course of action they took? Your paper needs to be as long as necessary and as short as possible. Domino’s Pizza In April 2009 two Domino's employees from a North Carolina store shot a video of themselves doing gross things to the food they were preparing for delivery and posted it on YouTube. The video spread and created a PR crisis for Domino's. The firm decided to react to the event (taking 48 hours respond). 2. Firestone & Ford In the late 1990’s and early 2000’s several accidents were reported of Ford Explorers equipped with Firestone tires rolling over as a consequence of tires’ failures. By the end of 2000 the death toll was estimated at more than 250, and some 3,000 incidents had been associated with ‘defective’ Firestone tires mounted on Ford Explorers. These problems were frequently encountered in Saudi Arabia and Venezuela but also occurred in mid-western US. The US reports triggered a crisis for the two companies. 3. Exxon Valdez In 1989, the infamous Exxon Valdez oil spill occurred and the Exxon Shipping Company was unprepared for the crisis. It was not anticipated by the company or the Coast Guard which left both groups in a state of panic. The Exxon Valdez supertanker was on a path from Alaska to Long Beach, California with over 53 million gallons of crude oil aboard. The ship had been avoiding icebergs during the journey. But, three hours in it was punctured by Bligh reef in Prince William Sound spilling over 10 million gallons of oil into the water. 4. Global Village, Dubai On the 24th of January 2013, a piece of metal broke off the funfair ride at Dubai Global Village and landed on the head of an Emirati man causing his death. The victim was 37 years old, and a father of 7 children.
