Desktop App to Reconcile Excel Spreadsheets

Background Currently, we receive two spreadsheets (Invoice Files) from our vendor(s) that contain order information. These files show the price we pay for an item and the price for which the item sold. One spreadsheet has invoice information for four companies, which are differentiated by a Customer Number. The other spreadsheet is for one customer. Our master price file is contained on a spreadsheet – which has multiple tabs – one for each company. When we receive the file, we manually check to ensure that the prices used by our vendor match back to our master prices. Objective To automate the cross checking of the prices the vendor uses for our related sales versus our company’s master price lists. This will catch any price discrepancies as soon as possible and help reduce exposure to client billing issues. A program needs to be created that can run on a Windows 7 desktop. It should be an executable file, with any support libraries existing in associated DLLs. These DLLs must capable of being replicated – either by recompilation or by downloading industry standard DLLs. Any parameters that end up being used should be accessed via an XML file. The following reports should be generated: - A report indicating there are no differences - A report showing items that have price differences - A report showing all prices from both systems - An error report showing issues (e.g. missing fields necessary for linking, or items not found on master price file) The report showing that there are no differences should be defaulted to always be generated (XML parameter). The report showing items that have price differences should be defaulted to always be generated (XML parameter). The report showing all values from both systems should be driven by its corresponding XML parameter. The report showing errors should be defaulted to always be generated (XML parameter). It is anticipated that the program will import the spreadsheets and use internal processing (‘local’ DB or arrays) and perform its validation and reporting on the fly. It is desired that the program operate in such a way as to ignore format changes – column additions or deletions - perhaps by referencing the field names?
