Addictions in the work place or school
I have always been glad to belong to the Y-generation. The new ones, we are the generation of Facebook, Twitter, i-pad, i-phones, blackberry, tablets and the media craze that is on the increase.
Our generation makes fast invention, fast money and fast life and with it comes ills that are not dealt with. There are so many: pornography, phone sex, orgies, the constant partying. With the speeding up of everything both good and evil, our world is on a fast lane, no one is quite sure where it is headed.
Today I want to talk about the use of drugs and alcohol while working. The artiste’s of our much loved entertainment: music, movies and more should understand what I am talking about. The grapevine on our showbiz artiste who are so loved is that there is hardly any artiste who doesn’t use drugs that it is only when it gets out of hand that the media hears about it viz a viz Lindsay Lohan, Whitney Houston, Brandy. I call females because it is a general assumption that almost all the males use a drug in one form or another.
Watching the movie ‘The Flight’ it is easy to imagine that the use of drugs enhanced the flying skills of the actor. The Flight is a terrific movie in which Denzel Washington exhibited his wonderful acting skills. I half felt sorry for the character; in fact I wanted him to get off because of his excellent flying skills.
The truth is that no matter how much many imagine that their skills are enhanced under the influence of drugs; when we are rational we know it is not true and that the drugs are having an adverse effect on the human body of whoever is ‘using’. With my back ground in Cell Biology, I understand that it is only a matter of time before the drugs destroy the human body of the individual utilizing drugs and that the only time that wouldn’t happen is under the influence of divinity.
So will Fela, the Fela’s of this world, go down the drain if they stop using drugs, no they would actually be better. The pilots will fly better if they can think without the distraction that comes from being under the influence of anything else. The doctors would diagnose better, the artistes will sing and act for better and a longer time. Being under this influence of anything is not advisable, if anything it will cut short your career sooner than later.
Many people will read this article and call it true, a lie, some will take steps to stop, other will wave it off with a testimony of a grandfather who still smokes and has lived nine decade on earth, some will pass it off as ‘the haters’ again and some will get help to stop something that is killing slowly either your body or your soul. Ever seen the washed up has-beens, does it occur to you that long before their career died, their soul died? Keep your soul alive. When I listen to music, I pick the most passionate and soul filled one because everything else is dead but still walking. Keep your soul alive, stay off negative influences, guard your destiny. You will shine!
