Finding Android Honeycomb Developers on Freelancer

Honeycomb is an Android operating system that was discontinued in February of 2012. While Android devices have moved onto several other tasty sounding operating systems since then, the latest being “Marshmallow”, Honeycomb is still being put to use by application developers. When released in 2011, Honeycomb had some fairly notable features for its time. It was loaded with high performance wi-fi which allowed for a strong connection to stay in place even when the phone as locked. The Honeycomb 3.0 operating system was designed with larger-screened devices in mind, more specifically tablets.

In addition to getting upgraded wi-fi capabilities, Honeycomb also provided developers with a brand new UI framework that is still currently in use for the creation of tablet applications. The UI framework is described by many as a “content-focused interactive model.” The new UI design boasted a virtual and somewhat holographic design and was an instant favorite of many developers.

In Android 3.0 developers of device administration were given a whole new list of supported features. These included the following:

  • Introduction of multiple home-screens, all fully customizable, meaning that consumers could take organizing and personalizing to a whole new level.

  • An enhanced system bar for global notifications.

  • Applications were enabled to support new types of policies, including policies for encrypted storage, password expiration and history.

  • Passwords began requiring more complex characters.

  • Each home-screen was home to its very own search bar that allowed for content to be found internally and externally, and also contained the familiar launcher to access all of the installed applications on the device.

  • The redesign of the keyboard,  making it easier than ever to send various methods of correspondence. Features also included the touch-hold which allowed users to switch back and forth between text/voice input modes with ease from a button located in the main system bar.

  • New connectivity options - users were able to instantly sync media files with the use of USB-connected cameras or computers. The ability to connect full keyboards to devices was another favorite of enterprises, as it allowed them to do more with their handheld devices and rely less on their desktop computers.

  • Bluetooth tethering came into play with it the ability to share a network with more devices, thus increasing productivity in companies that were already making the transition to a more technology reliant work environment.
