Contest Brief

Indian government has published a lot of information on indian population details, etc. on https://censusindia.gov.in/ - details like total population, male female ratio, sc/st/ etc. at the village/ town level - and then adding upto the national population level.... all available on excel.

India also has a list of > 150,000 pin codes, locations, etc. listed in various sites including here https://data.gov.in/catalog/locality-based-pincode?filters%5Bfield_catalog_reference%5D=532481&format=json&offset=0&limit=6&sort%5Bcreated%5D=desc where they have a downloadable excel sheet of pin code based locations - villages and towns.

Human Development indicators are also available at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Indian_states_and_union_territories_by_Human_Development_Index

I need a data for (~200-500) variables (pin code, population, education, gender, mortality, access to schools, etc.) indexed to the lowest level of granularity (906,267 localities) on a (large) excel sheet.

It would be very helpful if you have access to a paid website like IndiaStat.com - but this is only to help you.

Ofcourse, all data sources will be indexed, verifiable with weblinks and cross-referenceable.

Hi, Could you explain this a little more in detail 'data for (~200-500) variables (pin code, population, education, gender, mortality, access to schools, etc.) indexed to the lowest level of granularity (906,267 localities)'. Much appreciate if an example is given, maybe a excel file to get an idea on what data is needed.

I have not been able to access the websites, due to them being blocked due to security reasons. I have not worked on this project.

    Hello,
I collected most of the data but I have a question. How should the villages data, for instance be merged with the provided localities? based on the state, locality and district name only?

I'm asking because there is no pin-code in the village files.

      Yes, you're right.
When better resolution is available at the village level (which is the case in several examples) use that as the index.

I guess you're talking about a census field. The census measures the number of people belonging to the sc/st communities.
