Contest Brief

Hi!

I'm looking for an affordable illustrator who is interested in working with me over a long period of time as I launch a series of new products.

Illustration is obviously a very personal medium, and this work will really suit someone who's natural illustration style is already very close to the style I’m looking for, which is provided in the attached examples.

THE IDEAL ILLUSTRATOR

- A highly experienced hand-drawn illustrator
- Creative & highly detailed
- Able to take a high-level brief, interpret it creatively and then work up a variety of alternative approaches
- Able to study an illustration style, immerse themselves in it, and then apply it to new projects.

THE BRIEF

The brief for this initial project is to design a beer label where the primary image element is a sophisticated, beautiful woman. It should be flattering, not sexual. It should be a celebration of her elegance and free spirit. Feel free to get your inspiration from anywhere – I’m interested in seeing how you interpret this.

Keep in mind this is an exercise, not a real brand, so there are no constraints on how you implement this.

THE COLOURS

Feel free to base the design around any colour that you feel best conveys the emotion of the image. Keep the colour palette very simple, as per the examples provided.

THE STYLE

Adopt the illustration style used in the attached images, as closely as possible. Both the primary image element and the background should be detailed, and hand-drawn, as per the examples provided.

THE SUBMISSION

Only one final image is required, however it would be extremely helpful if you're also able to submit your initial sketches so we can follow your creative process.

THE WINNER

The winner will be the illustrator who can demonstrate their ability to creatively interpret the brief, while adopting a specific illustration style.

We’ll be delighted to award the cash prize, but the real prize is the ongoing work. After the competition, the winner will be briefed on the actual packaging illustrations that we're looking for. I have a significant ongoing requirement, and would love to work with someone over the long term.
