Design HTML newsletter for internal communications

  • Status: Pending
  • Prize: $1500
  • Entries Received: 56

Contest Brief

We need help designing a newsletter that we can send via email (embedded) using either Outlook or Constant Contact. The newsletter is daily and internal, therefore we need several options for customization/layouts depending on the content. The information presented is often technical, therefore we need a lot of built-in design that doesn't rely on nice photography or infographics. The email newsletter also needs to work well in printed form, which is how most of our manufacturing audience sees it. We typically have four articles in each newsletter, (roughly 350 words total), and a recurring header which includes COVID-related information (status updates, active cases, etc.) in the form of two tables. Lastly, we need a version of the newsletter that can function as a "speed read" for supervisors: similar vibe but more direct and to-the-point, drawing attention to key information that their teams need to know. Color scheme is green and/or blue.

Right now it looks something like https://www.lacp.com/2004inspire/images/3259.jpg or https://kelleynelsonmarketing.com/internal-communications/hxg-internal-newsletter/ and we're looking for something more visually appealing.

We are a manufacturer and this is an internal communication. Our articles include key info that employees need at the start of each shift--weekend overtime announcements, changes in cafeteria hours, parking lot notices, job openings, volunteer opportunities, employee recognition for high quality standards, etc. We rarely have photography, but when we do it's of an employee. Occasionally we have a graphic to represent an employee resource group by their logo. We're looking for a visually interesting way to display this information that doesn't rely on photography or infographics/charts. We need a way to call attention to key points in an article.

More information about the project would probably make the work easier to be done, for example you said the color theme is in blue and green, but which hexcode? There is a lot of combinations for blue and green, there's lighter and darker colors etc etc.

The color scheme isn't driving our newsletter. We're looking for a way to make our articles look more interesting without stock photography or infographics. Maybe this is a unique way to display article headlines, or a consistent treatment for key points in each article. Maybe it's the addition of call-out blocks, or an interesting layout.

The newsletter is emailed to supervisors, who then print and share with their teams. All office staff will only see the newsletter in email form. The purpose of HTML (like Constant Contact) is to have some nice design/layout in the body of the email versus an attachment.
