Design Colourful, Plastic Hanging Baskets for Kids

Contest Brief

I would like to design 4 different, decorative hanging baskets in the shape of insects: bees, ladybirds, butterflies and dragonflies. These baskets will be plastic and brightly coloured to appeal to children. They will hang outside, full of flowers. The diameter of each basket will be approximately 30cm and they will hang by metal chains. The plastic baskets should be sturdy and strong and will be produced by Injection Moulding. If necessary, the designs could be enhanced with the use of stickers. The whole concept is to encourage children to grow their own fruit, flowers and vegetables so the designs need to be cheerful and friendly.

Employer Feedback

“Alejandro came up with some fabulous designs showing a great understanding of what I was looking for plus a great eye for colour and quality. He was efficient and communicated well; he completed all the work as promised, putting in a lot of effort. Nothing was too much trouble. I would definitely use him again and he comes highly recommended. ”

Can you please be specific as to what kind of output that you require? Is it only sketches (i.e. hand drawn or maybe from .ai)? Do you need CAD files (i.e. Solidworks, AutoCad, stp)?

Hi there, thank you for your interest in the competition. At the moment I am happy to have hand drawn sketches with a colour scheme. If I award you the contest, then I would need CAD files later. I do need Design for Manufacture built in. Ideally I need you to suggest how the manufacture would work.

IMHO Industrial design and engineering design are 2 totally different fields. I suggest that you be careful because most of the designs here may be pretty but provide little or no info of how they're going to be produced. How are the parts going to be made? What kind of fixing/assembly that'll be used?

Hi there. Thank you for your lovely design. At the moment it is one of my favourites but I need you to explain how the parts are going to be made and put together for the manufacturers.
