A potential employer asked for my whatssapp number. Is giving my mobile number a good idea?

asked by t 8 months ago

I am a new freelancer, this will be my first project if awarded, and the employer is verified. He contacted me via private message within minutes of my bidding. He had reviewed my profile, and said he looked forward to working with me, and asked for my Whatsapp number, so I gave it. Am a bit concerned about it and want to know if that is normal ?

From what I remember, exchanging contacts is a violation to the terms and conditions of using the website. Both of your accounts will receive an email of warning if they found out.

No, this is not normal. There are other ways of communication, which you should prefer. Here on freelancer.com there is an internal chat, which you can use for communication. Some clients prefer email or Skype or other IM services. It is up to you, but giving a phone number to somebody who you don't know is a risk.
