Hello, As a young and driven editor establishing my name in the business, I do everything to assure a perfect end product. I was gifted with an incredibly keen eye, a natural sense of grammar, and a penchant for flow, structure, and eloquence. To these I have added schooling and millions of hours of personal study. The main ingredient in my experience, however, is communication. The story needs to be a perfect version of your original idea, not the editor's vision. I communicate with my authors on a very consistent and thorough basis and usually start with minimalist editing (predominantly proofing) with some minor adjustment ideas, then we gauge your thoughts and I tweak from there. I like to edit between one and four chapters a day, sending them back with my proposed corrections/suggestions so you can look them over and we can discuss them, then reediting after you accept/decline/change the chapter and send it back to me. Thus, I go through the book at least a few times, plus a read-through or two at the very end to make sure nothing was missed and that it really is exactly what you want and meets both of our standards.
