I have written and published a historical novel. My website is www.lawrencerowe.com, books and writing samples are there, they speak for themselves. Most people who write books but fail to get published do 12 to 24 very basic things wrong. A wiser way to proceed is to just give me first 50 pages and have me edit those for lower rate. If you aren't making elementary mistakes, then I can edit the whole book. If you are, your money would be more wisely spent making changes recommended based on problems with first 50 pages. For example, if you have POV slurs (point of view slurs), you don't need someone to identify them throughout the whole book. I could point out the problem in the first 50 pages, and then you could correct the errors throughout the book. I have no problem taking your money if you are rich and want the whole book edited anyway, just trying to be helpful. You made no mention of the length of the MS in words or pages, which is want anyone bidding on an edit would want to know. Is it 300 pages, or 1200? 100,000 words, or 250,000? Couple corrections also below. Not trying to be smarmy, but rather helpful. If you are going to interact with people who know writing, you need to sound like you know writing. I put $1500 on bid, but that may be much lower depending on length and your exact requirements. I am writing a fictional novel, but with a lot of historical facts, I need a proofread/editor to help with the construction. A NOVEL IS BY DEFINITION FICTIONAL. SAY EITHER A FICTIONAL BOOK OR A NOVEL. THOUGH SOME NOVELS MAY BE BASED ON TRUE STORIES, OR BE STORIES OF NON-FICTION, IN THE INDUSTRY NOVEL MEANS FICTION. FICTION IS ABOUT COMPELLING PLOT AND CHARACTERS, NOT FACTS. A BOOK IS CONSTRUCTED OF CHAPTERS. Whilst I don't need a ghost writer, I do need help and advice, Secondly, any editors with knowledge and contacts with publishers and publishing novels, and contacts with agents, will be useful. GETTING PUBLISHED ISN'T EASY. DON'T TALK ABOUT EDITORS AND SUCH UNTIL YOU HAVE A TOP-NOTCH MS. COMPLETED. IT IS UNBELIEVABLY COMPETITIVE. AGENTS--GOOD ONES--ARE BUSY PEOPLE, AND NO ONE WHO KNOWS ONE WOULD REFER JUST ANYONE TO THEM. I KNOW AN AGENT OR TWO, BUT WHEN I READ THIS I'M THINKING, I WOULD NEVER REFER SOMEONE WRITING A "FICTIONAL NOVEL" TO A REPUTABLE AGENT. The novel, is based on a Soldier who time travels, from Modern day to 1532 and back, in order save the monarchy, and has to avoid setting paradox's. SETTING PARADOX'S. THAT IS BRUTAL CONSTRUCTION AND GRAMMAR. BRUTAL. AGAIN, NO ONE WHO REALLY KNOWS A REPUTABLE AGENT WOULD REFER SOMEONE WHO MAKES SUCH BASIC WRITING ERRORS. IF YOUR POST IS THIS BAD, WHAT MUST YOUR NOVEL LOOK LIKE? Obviously it is fictional, but I have discovered previously never published historical facts and places, which add great "wow" factors, raise curiosity and gives immense credibility to the book. IF IT IS NEVER PUBLISHED THEN PREVIOUSLY IS A LITTLE REDUNDANT, ISN'T IT. AGAIN, NOT TRYING TO BE MEAN, BUT IF A POST IS THIS POORLY WRITTEN, ONE CRINGES TO THINK WHAT THE NOVEL LOOKS LIKE. GIVE IMMENSE CREDIBILITY, NOT GIVES. THE BIGGEST WOW FACTOR A NOVEL CAN HAVE IS COMPELLING CHARACTERS AND A PLOT THAT RACES. The story, plot, characters and concept is totally unique and original, but the facts that I have raised are genuinely "dan brown style" discoveries. ARE TOTALLY UNIQUE, NOT IS. TOTALLY IS WEAK ADJECTIVE. UNIQUE AND ORIGINAL REDUNDANT. YOU HAVE FOUR WORDS CONVEYING A THOUGHT. PICK ONE STRONG WORD. FACTS AREN'T RAISED LIKE A GLASS OR VENTURE CAPITAL, THEY ARE UNCOVERED, UNEARTHED, ETC. WHEN DEALING WITH AGENTS, COMPARISONS TO OTHER BIG NAME AUTHORS ARE A NO NO. TELL WHAT YOUR WORK IS WITHOUT HYPE, DON'T CHARACTERIZE IT. LET THE READER DRAW THE CONCLUSIONS. I am looking for someone who is genuinely interested in English History and Fictional Novels, that have a bite and punch, that makes the reader really think and ask questions. HAS A BITE AND PUNCH. NOT HAVE. READERS DON'T WANT TO THINK AND ASK QUESTIONS, THEY WANT TO BE ENTERTAINED FIRST. Please only Editors from UK, USA, Can and Aus, must have references and proof of ability. I've based my bid on the word-count of similar Dan Brown-esque novels c.100,000-125,000 words, so it is on the high side, but I'm open to negotiation (and also flexible with deadlines).
