A library information system would allow the management of a library system to do the following
a) manage users, media, and, allow users to search for media available for hire or for sale according to a pricing policy
b) allow administrators to archive information to a different database, preferably making use of a distributed database architecture if the database becomes large enough to allow different clients managing libraries within a private cloud. Include archival to MARC21 tape archive.
c) allow customers to buy books and media, trade books and media
d) avail from a search functionality available on smartphones and tablets
e) make use of token based authentication rather than forcing users and customers to remember passwords although it shall be possible to logon using a password.
